What I'm Up To

Facebook

Thanks to all that are joining my Fan page on facebook.  It's kind of cool.  more and more folks hearing about me and more and more deciding what I do is worthy.  Worthy of what, I'm not sure.

More discipline is required to keep blogging.

Hey,  everythings going pretty good.  I'm encouraged by booking some gigs from this page.  The people that are asking me to play m seem pleased with what they find here.  I'm going back and forth and the other with playing my originals, piano improv gigs, writing and pitching stuff to TAXI.  I recently got a forward from Taxi.  That means that "Taxi", a music screening outfit in CA decided that one of my piano solos was something that one of their clients needed.  It's been a couple of weeks so I might hear something in a month or so.
This particular client works at getting music into tv and films.  It would be something for that to happen wouldn't it?

The piano meditations cd has dominated the roll of income supplier.  I'll be doing another one after September.

Prosperity allowing, I'd like to visit Poppa in October and visit with the Easterlings and maybe go the Ferridaysongfest where Tommy Polk and my old friend Tis Sillers (probably doesn't remember me") will be doing workshop stuff.  I wish they'd come do it here.

Marketing Myself

One of my acquaintances that hears my music almost every Sunday ask, "What makes you stand out?"  I had to think about it a while before I came up with "nothing".  To most people, music isn't important.  If you can find something that doesn't offend you on the car radio, that's good enough.  Some of us feel that music heals.  Some find a song that resonates with our truth and our hearts claim that it is a great song.  As a composer/singer/songwriter, I may not stand out at the moment as the paramount talent that 10 or 12 people claim but, I will.  My tenacity and discipline is developing my abilities and indeed writing and recording at a higher level.  So, to answer the question, "What makes you stand out?" I'll say, "my next song".  My first top ten song will be a pretty good one.  It's  hard to imainge it being better than "light" or "Rachel" but, I know that I have to write the song that people are gonna REALLY love before they listen to the ones that I really Love.  I don't know.  I love all of my songs as if they were my children.  Warts and all.
Making a living making music is what most musicians dream of.  It doesn't take outstanding talent.  It takes outrageous risk, tenacity and the burning desire to put it out there.
I'm almost done with all the organizing stuff that I'd neglected for a few years.  Ready to get on with it.  Ready to be a songwriter rather than a songwritten.  Gettin' ready to play out.  I haven't done a real show in 7 years.  Looking forward to getting out there and showing the world that good music doesn't just come from the finely filtered machine that you hear on the radio.

Has it Really been 2 weeks?

It's early Thursday morning.  Not sure why I'm awake but, I am.  Yesterday was another amazing day.  This whole week has been amazing.  I put "I Don't Understand Women" up for an on-line critique session with a British Songwriting group on Twitter and made several new friends because of it.  Very Positive Comments.  Even ones that said, "Country
isn't my thing but..."  It's been encouraging.  I have to say how thankful I am for the folks I've met on Twitter that are enjoying the piano meditations.  People in the "business" of positive spirituality teachings and such.  Of course, if you're following there or on Facebook you know that I'm being followed by several people who are selling dogfood.  I think I'll put a better picture soon.  PROGRESS in the goal folks.  Yesterday, two different friends decided to engage their network with friends that work at radio stations and ask.  Radio stations usually don't have much to say about what they play, yet I'm hopeful that more of the stations are getting at least some time to play "homegrown" programs.  KFAI has
me on their list after the fund drive.  I'll keep ya'll posted on that.  Air play is still one of the major ways music gets introduced to large audiences.

School teachers are logging on to my site and leaving it on all day for back-ground music for their students to study too?
Reports of better attention and calmer class rooms aren't coming back at me but, if you've heard the piao meditations,
you can imagine.  Do you know any school teachers, elementary?  Let me know.  Let them know.
Do you have a masseuse?  Tell them.  Do you take a yoga class? Tell them.  Tell your teachers.  Tell your classmates.
I'd also like to hear any of your ideas on how to further promote what's going on here.  My mailing list is at 55 now.
What's a reasonable goal for next week.  double? triple?  More?

SHOUTOUTS!
JAN called me to say she was having trouble listening to the site but, still supported me on this goal.  SARAH admitted to "shamelessly promoting my music".  MANDY helped me be heard by an industry professional.
MELANIE the Laughing Yoga Lady blogs my site on Twitter.  TIA is another wonderful new fan from Twitter
CARI on the Facebook group Create Change Now. CARRIE the best waitress (and dog catcher) ever.  GENELLE and NANCY for the possible radio connections.  CRYSTAL for the downloads.  ROBYN for saying, "I want you to make me a cd."
DAWN for always believing.  And anyone I've missed that is positively holding my dream to the light and vibrations of an undeniable reality.  THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.

April 1, 2009

I'm really hoping that this the last time I see snow on my car until at least October.  It's a miracle.  Just not the kind of miracle I'm trying to bring about.  So many things are falling perfectly in to place like things tend to do when left fo their own devices.  I'm thinking less and less these days.  I've got some ideas about the site that I'll always need the opinions of fans on.

I'm gonna rotate all the songs to the player on different days so if you visit daily for a month.  You'll have heard it all except...
I'm gonna do new piano improvs at least twice a week as well.  Those are quite popular and poplular in my world is good.
Tonight, I'm planning to record piano/vox and guitar/vox of some songs that aren't on the site yet and some that are but, sound different than they used to thanks to my love of country music and production efforts.  I'll be posting those under a new album name probably titled "Acoustic" or maybe something even more clever.  We'll see how well my plan goes after 8 long ones and the drive home.

I was at the National Conference Center last March and I always got in some piano improv time on the house piano that sat above the cafeteria amongst some comfy chairs.  I gained a few fans then but, wasn't quite willing to market yet.  Anyway, one guy sat down one evening before I ate and I decided I'd keep playing as long as he'd listen.  Twenty-five minutes later, the smell of food and a growling belly forced me into composing an ending.  The guy got up and walked downstairs with me he said, "I was gonna listened until you stopped playing.  It was beautiful."  I told him of my similar goal and we had a laugh and parted ways with no contact information exchanged.  My shyness, once more, cost me what could have been a long-term fan and friend.  And I thought, as the server plopped polenta dressing on my plate, I wish I had a website and a card I could have given him.  Here's the website!!YAY!!  I'll get the cards soon.

Here's a shoutout to some other fans and friends I made there.  HEY CAROL BLAINE!!  HEY TRACY LENARDS!!
THANKS FOR LISTENING!!!! Then and NOW!

Just back from a concert at a Unity church in Golden Valley Minnesota.  The duo called "Devotion" are amazing.  Their link is www.devotionsings.com.  You could be impressed with either of them seperately but, together they're a treasure.
I sat through a hour and a half with no itchiness or boredom and that is RARE for me.

I'm finishing the second day of my 3 day weekend.  I took off Saturday for my youngest daughter's Color Guard competition.  I'm still not sure what I think of it.  I was expecting some military style marching maneuvers but, it's a dance team with wooden rifles, flags and swords.  A lot of it was beautiful and I enjoyed it.  It is, however, an entire culture that I never knew existed in my 46 years.

I'm enjoying the new site and working on making it a happy place.  The traffic is encouraging.  The sales are indicative that I'm still not reaching enough people.  Still need a second layer (people that know people I know but, don't know me).  I'm hoping I don't have to become some kind of professional internet marketer just to sell my music.  I'm twittering, I'm facebooking and now I'm blogging.  The potential makes this terribly exciting.

That's all for now.  Hope to see you again.
